CHRISTIE, ANOTHER POLITICIAN AFRAID OF THE N.R.A.

06. September 2016 Politics 0
Last week New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie vetoed a bill that would have increased the sales of smart guns, guns that would only be able to be fired by authorized owners.

This is the second time Christie vetoed legislation of a gun bill. In January he rejected a bill and sent it back to the legislatures.

This time he said it was a Democratic effort to make his state “inhospitable” to lawful gun ownership.

It seems that the National Rifle Association (N.R.A.) has another politician in their pockets, maybe rightfully so.

Smart guns were first talked about 16 years ago by a man named Ed Shultz1. The gun industry immediately ran him out of the business. They believed that the smart-gun technology y would be able to be disabled remotely by the government. The N.R.A. released Shultz’s phone number and told their members to call him. Numerous threats were then directed his way.

The N.R.A. publicly denounced Smith &Wes tern and their sales dropped so fast that their stock fell by 95 percent within a year they went public with the smart-gun. They ended up selling their company for pennies on the dollar.

In the 2000 Presidential election the N.R.A. endorsed George Bush. They contributed more money to his campaign then any other special interest group in U.S. history contributed to a Presidential Campaign. They are accredited for Bush winning that Presidential race.

This year the N.R.A. endorsed Donald Trump for President. Trump wants it as a national right to be able to carry a concealed firearm.

We all know how Trump and Christie became best friends after Christie dropped out of the Republican Primary. It’s believed that if Trump wins the election he’ll make Christie his Attorney General or give him a place on his Cabinet.
What would the N.R.A think if Christie signed those bills that came across his desk? Would they tell Trump that Christie is off limits for any post in his Presidency? Would they endorse another Republican for Governor in New Jersey? I’m sure some of these things crossed Christie’s mind.

The N.R.A. is one of the most powerful special interest groups this country has ever seen. They have the money and the membership to sway most elections. This bill that Christie refused to sign was not because he doesn’t believe in smart-gun technology but he just didn’t want his political career to be over. Can You blame him?

1. Ed Shultz was the C.E.O. of Smith & Western.
